The application requires an Affidavit of Lawful Presence and citizenship/immigration-status disclosure, but no criminal-history background check requirement was found on official CIB electrical licensing pages or the application form itself (an Alarm Endorsement, a different add-on credential for alarm-system work, does separately require a criminal history check).     Complete approved training

    Complete 8000 hours of training at a state-approved program. 8,000 verifiable hours of on-the-job experience in electrical construction work, obtained while employed by a licensed electrical contractor and registered as an apprentice under the direct supervision of a licensed journeyman or contractor. At least 4,000 of those hours must be in commercial/industrial work, and up to 2,000 hours may be satisfied by formal electrical education (verified by transcript). CIB also offers narrower Residential Electrical Journeyman (4,000 hours, limited to 1-2 family dwellings) and Refinery Electrical Journeyman (reciprocal-only, refinery facilities) tiers; Unlimited is recorded here as the general-purpose journeyman path.     Unlimited Electrical Journeyman Examination

    Pass the Unlimited Electrical Journeyman Examination. All applicants must pass the Oklahoma electrical exam (reciprocal applicants are exempt). CIB forwards approved applications to its national testing provider, PSI, which then supplies study material, testing sites, fees, and dates directly to the candidate. No official CIB page found publishes the PSI testing fee itself, so it is left null; a candidate may retake a failed exam 30 days after the previous attempt. [2]

Renewal & continuing education

Renew every 3 years. 12 continuing education hours required per cycle.

Electrical Journeymen/Contractors must complete 12 hours of continuing education every 3 years (36 months) before the license expires: 6 hours must be Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission code-update material, and the remaining 6 hours may cover electrical theory, wiring methods, grounding/bonding, control systems, alternative energy, NFPA 70E safety, or the Electrical License Act/CIB rules.
