The Board charges a $20 initial fee for in-state manicurist licenses and $35 for out-of-state reciprocity licenses. There is no separate license fee beyond this initial amount.

Reciprocity is available for individuals holding a current license in good standing from a state offering reciprocity to North Carolina. Florida and Puerto Rico manicurist licenses are not accepted for reciprocity. Alaska manicurist licenses are not accepted, but advanced manicurists are.

How do I get a temporary permit?
To qualify for a temporary permit, three conditions must be met: 1. Graduation form received by the Board directly from the school. 2. Permit application and payment submitted to the Board. 3. Graduate has applied for examination after graduation and within 3 months of the graduation date.
Have my CE hours been reported to the Board?
The Board does not receive reported hours from providers. Each licensee keeps CE records and submits them only when audited.
Can I get a permit while I wait for reciprocity from another state?
No, permits are only for NC graduates. However, the reciprocity process is short and applications are reviewed quickly upon receipt.
If I have a current license in another state will I have to take an exam?
No, generally if you hold a current license in another state, you will not have to take an exam to transfer your license to North Carolina, provided you meet the reciprocity requirements.
