Be at least 18 years old. No criminal background check is required; applicants must instead execute a notarized affidavit verifying lawful presence in the United States (56 O.S. Complete approved training
Complete the required training. Requirement is expressed in years of experience, not a fixed hour count, so hours is left null. Journeyman applicants must be 18+ and have either 3 years of plumbing-trade experience while employed by a licensed Oklahoma Plumbing Contractor, equivalent verifiable military plumbing experience, or a current out-of-state plumbing license in good standing. Experience gained in Oklahoma only counts if the applicant maintained an active CIB apprentice registration during that time. An associate degree/vocational diploma from a Committee-approved plumbing program (1,000+ classroom hours) can substitute for up to 2 years of the 3-year requirement, with smaller diplomas (down to 250 hours) substituting proportionally less. The Board's own experience-verification form notes 1 year of full-time work "generally approximates" 2,000 hours, i.e. roughly 6,000 hours for the full 3-year requirement, but this is an approximation, not the codified standard. Pass the Oklahoma Plumbing Journeyman Examination. The Arkansas licensing agency (Protective Health Codes) must complete and seal Part 2 of CIB's verification form; the reciprocal license fee is the same $75 ($50 license + $25 application) as a standard journeyman license. Outside the Arkansas agreement, other out-of-state license holders can only use their license as qualifying experience toward sitting the standard Oklahoma exam, not as a waiver of testing.
