How to get licensed

    Meet the prerequisites

    Be at least 18 years old, pass a criminal background check. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card from the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), and provide proof of lawful presence in the United States. [1]

    Complete approved training

    Complete 90 hours of training at a state-approved program. Applicants must complete a 90-hour pre-licensing education course from an ADRE-approved school and pass the school's final exam. Additionally, a 6-hour Contract Writing Course must be completed prior to submitting the license application. [1]

    Arizona Real Estate Salesperson Examination

    Pass the Arizona Real Estate Salesperson Examination (fee: $75). Computer-based (Multiple-choice) The exam consists of two portions: a General (National) portion and a State-Specific portion, administered by Pearson VUE. The fee is $75 per attempt. [2]

There is no separate application fee. Original license fees consist of a $50 license fee and a $10 Real Estate Recovery Fund fee, totaling $60. Timely renewal is $60, while late renewal is $125. Pearson VUE exam fees are paid separately to the testing vendor.

Renewal & continuing education

Renew every 2 years. 24 continuing education hours required per cycle.

Licenses are renewed every 2 years. Salespersons must complete 24 hours of approved continuing education, which must include at least 1 hour each of Firewise, Deed Fraud, and Arizona Water courses (effective January 1, 2025).

Reciprocity

Endorsement/reciprocity from another state is available.

Arizona offers Out-of-State License Recognition under A.R.S. § 32-4302 for individuals licensed in another state for at least one year. Applicants must pass the Arizona state-specific exam portion, submit a certified license history, complete the 6-hour Contract Writing Course, and either provide proof of Arizona residency or complete a 27-hour pre-licensure education course.

Frequently asked questions

What are the Firewise, Deed Fraud, and Arizona Water continuing education (CE) requirements, and when did they take effect?

Beginning January 1, 2025, as part of your required real estate license renewal CE hours, you must complete one (1) hour of CE on each of the following: Firewise (education on fire safety and prevention in real estate), Deed Fraud (training on identifying and preventing fraudulent real estate transactions), and Arizona Water (information on Arizona water rights and real estate considerations).

Do you receive my CE course completions directly from the school?

No. When you complete a continuing education course, you receive a certificate containing the Course Number, Course Start Date, and Course End Date, which you must submit through the online Licensee Login portal. You can submit courses taken anytime during your two-year renewal period.

When I enter a course in my account, why do I receive a message that says 'Course taken outside allowable date range'?

There are two possible reasons: The course may have been taken prior to the beginning of your current two-year renewal period that started after your previous license expiration date, or your school may have issued a certificate with the incorrect course number and needs to issue you a corrected certificate.

Is my Code of Ethics up to date?

Code of Ethics is not an ADRE licensing requirement. If you are a member of a local association, they may require you to take this course as a condition of your membership. This is not one of your CE requirements and is not submitted to the ADRE.
