    Meet the prerequisites

    Be at least 18 years old, High school diploma or equivalent, plus the 63-hour FREC I pre-licensing course., pass a criminal background check. Applicants must submit electronic fingerprints for an FDLE/FBI background check. Amounts come from the Commission's own fee rule, Fla. Admin. Code R. 61J2-1.011 (effective 2022-11-22): sales-associate application fee $11.00 and initial licensure fee $46.75. DBPR collects those together with the $5.00 unlicensed-activity fee required by s. 455.2281, F.S., which is why the DBPR RE 1 application shows a single $62.75 charge — that combined figure is what is recorded here as the application fee, and no separate license fee is billed, so license is null. Active biennial renewal is $64.00 under the same rule (plus the $5 unlicensed-activity fee at each renewal). The $83.75 application figure still circulating on older pages predates the 2022 fee reduction. Fingerprinting for the FDLE/FBI background check is billed separately by the Livescan vendor (typically $50-$90) and is not a DBPR fee.

Renewal & continuing education

Renewal is biennial, at $64.00 for an active sales associate under Fla. Admin. Code R. 61J2-1.011, plus the $5.00 unlicensed-activity fee collected at renewal. After the first renewal cycle — which requires the 45-hour post-licensing course instead of continuing education — sales associates complete 14 hours of continuing education every 2 years.

No interstate compact covers real estate licensing. Florida has mutual-recognition agreements with 9 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nebraska, and Rhode Island. Applicants from those states (holding an active license in good standing) may skip Florida's full pre-licensing course and general exam, but must still pass a 40-question Florida-specific law examination (30 points to pass). Applicants from all other states must meet Florida's standard 63-hour education and full exam requirements.
