How to get licensed

    Meet the prerequisites

    Be at least 18 years old, High school diploma or GED, plus the 90-hour pre-license course.. Indiana does NOT require a criminal history background check (CBC) for real estate broker applicants — the PLA's own CBC-required license list (per IC 25-1-1.1-4) covers only appraiser license types (Certified General Appraiser, Appraiser Trainee, Certified Residential Appraiser), not brokers. Broker applicants instead self-attest to any criminal history on the application and must disclose convictions with a detailed explanation if applicable. Brokers holding managing-broker eligibility need 4 of the 12 annual hours to be managing-broker-specific.

Reciprocity

Endorsement/reciprocity from another state is available.

No interstate compact covers real estate licensing. Indiana offers 'recognition of equivalence via Endorsement' for brokers licensed in another state, subject to Real Estate Commission review and approval; approved applicants need only pass the state-specific portion of the exam (the dedicated 'Broker by Endorsement' exam: 60 questions, 90 minutes, $55) rather than the full national+state exam.
