How to get licensed

    Meet the prerequisites

    Be at least 18 years old, 90-hour pre-license Basic course (see training); no college degree required., pass a criminal background check. Must be a person of good moral character, at least 18 years old, per the Oklahoma Real Estate License Code and Rules. A live-scan fingerprint background check through IdentoGO (service code 2B7NR3), processed by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, is required. Applicants must also submit proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency (a valid green card/Permanent Resident card); OREC's own FAQ specifies that DACA status does not satisfy this requirement, since deferred action does not confer lawful permanent status.     Complete approved training

    Complete 90 hours of training at a state-approved program. 90-hour pre-license Basic (salesperson) course from an OREC-approved provider; completion is valid for 3 years. After initial licensure as a Provisional Sales Associate (a non-renewable license type), a separate 45-hour Post License course must be completed before the Provisional license expires in order to convert to a full Sales Associate license.     Pass the Oklahoma Provisional Sales Associate / Sales Associate Examination (State and National portions) (fee: $75). $75 total when the State and National portions are purchased together at scheduling (a booking discount off the per-exam rate); fee is paid directly to Pearson VUE, separate from OREC's fees, and is due for each exam attempt (unlimited retakes allowed, no per-attempt cap noted).     Submit your application

    Submit your application to Oklahoma Real Estate Commission (OREC) with the $35 application fee. Typical processing time: About 5 business days for OREC to review a submitted online application, with Pearson VUE emailing exam-scheduling instructions within 48 hours of approval. [2]

    Receive your license

    Once your application is approved, Oklahoma Real Estate Commission (OREC) issues your Provisional Sales Associate License for Oklahoma.

Application processing fee ($35) and license issuance fee for Provisional Sales Associate ($100, paid after passing the exam) are both payable to OREC per the Commission's fee schedule effective 11/1/2024. The Provisional Sales Associate license itself does not renew (it converts to a Sales Associate license after the 45-hour post-license course); the $220 renewal figure shown is the subsequent active Sales Associate renewal fee ($145 if inactive), which recurs on the 3-year renewal cycle.

Figures shown are for the Resident Sales Associate license that a Provisional Sales Associate converts into. 30 hours of CE every 3 years, including 13 required hours (6 Contracts & Forms, 3 Professional Conduct, 1 Broker Relationship Act, 1 Code & Rules, 1 Fair Housing, 1 Hot Topic) plus 17 elective hours. Non-resident Sales Associates need only 8 CE hours (1 BRA, 1 Code & Rules, 6 Contracts & Forms). Inactive licensees have no CE requirement until reactivating.

Reciprocity

Endorsement/reciprocity from another state is available.

Oklahoma maintains non-resident reciprocal (license-for-license) agreements, per OREC's own published list, with Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota, subject to the requirements in Rule 605:10-7-9. Applicants from non-reciprocal states can still apply via the standard Sales Associate/Broker Associate out-of-state pathway (Oklahoma-specific CE in Broker Relationship Act, Code & Rules, and Contracts & Forms, plus license history and background check) but cannot receive a license of higher standing than what they currently hold elsewhere.
