How to get licensed

    Meet the prerequisites

    Be at least 18 years old, pass a criminal background check. Per Commission Rules Chapter 1, Section 4(b), exam registrants must have "reached the age of majority" (18 in Wyoming). Applicants must submit two fingerprint cards and pay a separate processing fee to the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation/Attorney General. An applicant with a prior felony conviction may be considered for licensure 12 months after all sentencing/parole/probation requirements are completed.     Complete approved training

Per Wyoming Real Estate Commission Rules, Chapter 2 (Fees): each original Broker/Salesperson license is $300 (there is no separate application fee beyond this), and the Broker/Salesperson three-year renewal license is $350. A $20 Recovery Fund fee also applies. Late renewal adds $75. Fingerprint processing (two fingerprint cards) requires a separate $39 certified check or money order payable to the Wyoming Attorney General, per Pearson VUE's candidate handbook.

Renewal & continuing education

Wyoming renews Salesperson licenses on an unusually long 3-year cycle (most states use 2 years). Active Salesperson licensees must complete 45 total hours of continuing education per cycle: 24 required hours plus 21 elective hours. Per Commission Rules Chapter 1, Section 3(l), initial licenses expire December 31 of the year issued and must be renewed by that date, but no continuing education hours are required for that first renewal. Inactive licenses require no CE but must still be renewed (inactive renewal fee is $370, versus $350 active, per the Commission's Continuing Education page).

Wyoming allows an Out-of-State Salesperson Applicant path for anyone with an active license in another state: the applicant completes the Wyoming Law course and the Salesperson II course (skipping the full Salesperson I course), submits fingerprints, and passes only the Wyoming State portion of the exam -- the national portion is waived if the applicant's prior license is deemed a "like-license" in good standing (Commission Rules Chapter 1, Section 4(k)), provided they served actively for 2 of the preceding 4 years. Colorado licensees have a documented direct mapping (Colorado FA = Wyoming Salesperson). There is no interstate real estate licensure compact.
